A River Corrects Course | The Story of the Yamuna River and the Red Fort

In July 2023, the Yamuna river flooded the streets of Delhi. Thousands were forced to evacuate their homes and everything from traffic to electricity to water supply was affected. One of the most striking visuals from the time was that of the waters of the Yamuna reaching the ramparts of the Red Fort. A little over 150 years ago, the Yamuna actually used to flow right there – but the course of the river has changed since, partly naturally, and partly due to infrastructural changes to the city.
